Adam Lowry (born March 29, 1993 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League since April 2013 . His father Dave was also a professional ice hockey player, played over 1,000 NHL games and is currently a coach.
Career
Childhood and family
Adam Lowry was born in St. Louis when his father Dave was there for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League (NHL). In addition, following his father's career, he lived in Florida and California as a child and is therefore a citizen of the United States in addition to Canadian . In 2000, Dave Lowry joined the Calgary Flames , so the family returned to Canada and Adam Lowry was raised in Calgary .
His brother, Joel Lowry (* 1991), is also an ice hockey player and was selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings in 140th position. In the 2015/16 season he made his professional debut for the Ontario Reign in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Swift Current Broncos
In Calgary, Lowry played in the youth departments of the Calgary Bisons and the Calgary Rangers before he was selected in the 2008 Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League by the Swift Current Broncos in 78th place. However, he joined the team a year later and in his debut season 2009/10 he had 34 scorer points from 61 games. In addition, he was awarded the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy as the player who best combines athletic and academic success. With the Canada Pacific team he also took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2010 and reached fifth place with the team. Although he contracted Pfeiffer glandular fever while preparing for his second season in Swift Current , he completed 66 games in the 2010/11 season and increased his scorer statistics to 45 points. Furthermore, as in the previous year, he was the nominee of the Eastern Conference for the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy, but could not prevail against Colin Smith from the Western Conference . In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2011 , the Winnipeg Jets selected him in 67th position.
After Lowry had missed much of the 2011/12 season due to a wrist injury , he made his breakthrough the following year, scoring an outstanding 88 points in 72 games. Because of this performance, he was named the best WHL player of the year with the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy and also elected to the First All-Star Team of the Eastern Conference of the WHL. He also drew attention to the Winnipeg Jets, which provided him with an entry-level contract right after the WHL season ended .
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets gave it direct to the St. John's IceCaps , their farm team from the AHL. There he ended the 2012/13 season with nine missions and established himself as a regular goalscorer (17) and assists (16) over the course of the following season. In the Calder Cup playoffs , the IceCaps reached the final, but lost to the Texas Stars (1: 4).
Since the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Lowry has been a permanent fixture in the NHL lineup of the Jets.
