During this season he reached the finals of the Stanley Cup for the first time with the Oilers, where numerous young stars such as Wayne Gretzky , Paul Coffey , Mark Messier and Grant Fuhr played . They were still subject to the New York Islanders . After playing for Canada at the Canada Cup in 1984 , the first two Stanley Cups followed. Three more were to follow by 1990. In the 1991 NHL Expansion Draft , he was selected by the Minnesota North Stars . But only a few days later they passed it on to the Los Angeles Kings . Huddy switched among other things together with a draft pick, for which the Kings later brought Alexei Schitnik . In return, Todd Elik came to Minnesota. He returned to Buffalo at the end of the season and played another game for the Sabers. Mostly he was used in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans .

After his active career, he took over the coaching position with the Huntington Blizzard in the East Coast Hockey League . From 1998 he was assistant coach with the New York Rangers . After two seasons there, he returned to the Edmonton Oilers in 2000. Until 2009 he was active there as the assistant coach of Craig MacTavish .
