Todd Sloan Elik (born April 15, 1966 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who last played for ATSE Graz in the Austrian National League. In the National Hockey League he was active for the Los Angeles Kings , Minnesota North Stars , Edmonton Oilers , San Jose Sharks , St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins .
Career
Elik played three years from 1983 to 1986 in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kingston Canadians and North Bay Centennials without particularly shining with his statistics. Since he remained undrafted , he moved to the 1986/87 season for a year at the University of Regina , which played in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association.
For the 1987/88 season, the center received its first professional contract with the Colorado Rangers from the International Hockey League , the farm team of the New York Rangers from the NHL. Without ever being used for the New Yorkers, he was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings in December 1988 . There he made the leap into the NHL in the 1989/90 season . After his engagement with the Kings, which lasted until the end of the 1990/91 season , he changed to the Minnesota North Stars , Edmonton Oilers , San Jose Sharks , St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins . At first Elik managed to get a place in the regular squad again everywhere, but in the season 1996/97 he commuted again for the first time between the Boston Bruins and the Providence Bruins , the farm team from the American Hockey League .
The Canadian then moved to the Swiss National League A for HC Lugano in the 1997/98 season . Other stations there were the SCL Tigers , EV Zug and HC Davos . In the summer of 2005 Elik went to neighboring Austria to join HC Innsbruck for two years , before moving back to Switzerland to SC Langenthal in the summer of 2007 . In the course of the 2007/08 season, the Slovenian club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , which takes part in the Austrian ice hockey league, signed him. From January 30, 2009, the Canadian played again for the SCL Tigers, who needed a replacement for the injured Jeff Toms . Elik was considered a public favorite in Emmental, as a player with an NHL past he enjoyed a lot of sympathy and repaid them with strong performances. In the summer he finally signed with the NLB club HC Thurgau , which he left again in November and joined the HK Jesenice . Before the start of the 2010/11 season, he left the Slovenian club and returned to his native Canada.
From mid-November 2010 the Canadian played for the traditional Austrian club ATSE Graz , where he was released in January 2011 after differences with the coach.
His jersey number 12 has been banned from the SCL Tigers.
