The Spengler Cup 1999 ( French Coupe Spengler 1999 ) was the 73rd edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 1999 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . A total of 72,950 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 6,631 per game.

It was won by the Kölner Haie , who won the tournament with a 6-2 victory in the final over HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk . In the qualification, the Russians had just won the game 3-2 in the penalty shootout . For Cologne it was the first tournament success at the Spengler Cup and the first for a German team since EV Füssen in 1964 . Overall, it was the sixth tournament victory for a German team.

The Italian-Canadian Luciano Borsato in the service of the host HC Davos was the most successful player in the tournament with seven points , including three goals. The Canadian Todd Elik was named Most Valuable Player .

mode

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
