The Spengler Cup 2002 ( French Coupe Spengler 2002 ) was the 76th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 2002 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . A total of 84,480 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which were all sold out.

It was won by Team Canada , which won the tournament with a 3-2 victory in the final in the new edition of the previous year's final over the hosts HC Davos . The Canadians had already won the match 3-2 in the qualification. In doing so, they returned the favor for the final defeats of the last two years. It was the ninth title for the Canadians since 1984 .

The Finn Mika Alatalo was the most successful player in the tournament with seven points , including three goals. The Canadian Lonny Bohonos in the service of HC Davos was honored as the most valuable player .

mode

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
