The Spengler Cup 2010 ( French Coupe Spengler 2010 ) was the 84th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 2010 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The local Vaillant Arena acted as the venue . A total of 67,465 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 6,133 per game.
It was won by SKA Saint Petersburg , who won the tournament by beating hosts HC Davos 4: 3 in the final . For Saint Petersburg it was the fourth success in the Spengler Cup after 1970 , 1971 and 1977 when the team took part under the then name SKA Leningrad . The Russian Maxim Suschinski from the tournament winner SKA Saint Petersburg was the most successful player in the tournament with seven points , including two goals. He scored both goals in the final.
The 84th edition of the traditional tournament represented a restructuring of the competition, as it was the first time that the new mode was played with six teams in two preliminary round groups of three teams and a subsequent knockout phase. The old mode had existed since 1986 and could look back holistically on more than 50 years of tradition. As a further highlight of the reorganization of the tournament, a championship game of the Continental Hockey League took place in the Vaillant Arena on December 23rd . There, SKA Saint Petersburg won 5-1 against HK Spartak Moscow .
Brett McLean in the service of Team Canada was the most successful player in the tournament with seven scorer points , including one goal.
mode
The six participating teams initially played in two preliminary round groups - named after the Davos ice hockey legends Richard Torriani and the Cattini brothers Ferdinand and Hans - three teams each in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team initially played two games Placements based on points. The two group winners qualified directly for the semifinals, while the second and third placed in a knockout duel played off the other two semifinals. The two semi-final winners finally determined the tournament winner on the final day.
