Maxim Sergejewitsch Afinogenow ( Russian Максим Сергеевич Афиногенов ; born September 4, 1979 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has played again for HK Dynamo Moscow in the Continental Hockey League since May 2018 .
Career
Afinogenow began his career with the Russian team HK Dynamo Moscow , where he spent the first four years of his professional career. His talent is mainly in the technical and running areas. Selected as number 69 in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft , Afinogenow moved to the NHL in 1999 after two more years at Dynamo. In his rookie season , he spent 15 games with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League , but made his breakthrough in the NHL. Due to a concussion , he missed much of the 2002/2003 season .
The 2004/05 season he spent again at his hometown club Dynamo due to the NHL lockout . In the 2005/06 season , Max became a star when he scored 73 points in 77 games and contributed significantly to the Buffalo Sabers reaching the finals of the Eastern Conference . He is considered one of the fastest strikers in the NHL and is also an excellent penalty taker .
In the following three game years, his offensive performance decreased significantly and Afinogenow often had to fight injuries. In the summer of 2009, his expiring contract with the Sabers was not extended and Afinogenow was invited to the training camp of the Atlanta Thrashers . Finally, on September 29, 2009, he received a one-year contract for $ 800,000 with the Thrashers.
In August 2010 Afinogenov was committed by SKA Saint Petersburg from the Continental Hockey League for five years. In the following three years, his points yield fell from season to season, so that his contract was dissolved in the summer of 2013 and Afinogenow moved to HK Vitjas together with Maxim Rybin .

On July 16, 2011, Afinogenov married the former Russian tennis player Jelena Dementjewa .
