Oscar Lindberg (born October 29, 1991 in Skellefteå ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Dynamo Moscow from the Continental Hockey League since 2020 and plays for them in the position of the center . Previously, Lindberg spent four years in the New York Rangers organization and just under two with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Ottawa Senators . With the Swedish national team , he won gold medals at the 2013 and 2017 world championships .

Career

Oscar Lindberg began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Skellefteå AIK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 2009/10 season . The center scored three goals in a total of 46 games and provided an assist. Then the Swedish youth international in June 2010, was first in Junior KHL Draft in the seventh round as the 178th overall player from HC Spartak Moscow , and shortly thereafter in the NHL Entry Draft in the second round than a total of 57 players from the Phoenix Coyotes selected . On May 8, 2011, the Coyotes gave the transfer rights to Lindberg in exchange for Ethan Werek to the New York Rangers .

For the 2013/14 season, Lindberg moved to North America and spent two years there almost exclusively with the Hartford Wolf Pack , the Rangers' farm team , in the American Hockey League (AHL). At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, however, the attacker established himself in New York's NHL squad. In June 2017, he was selected in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights , who a few days later provided him with a new two-year contract. With the team he surprisingly reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs , but lost to the Washington Capitals there .

After a little more than one and a half years in the service of the young franchise , Lindberg was transferred to the Ottawa Senators together with his compatriot, the young talent Erik Brännström , and a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2020 . The Golden Knights, however, secured the services of Mark Stone and his namesake Tobias Lindberg .

After six years in North America, Lindberg returned to Europe in August 2019 by joining EV Zug from the Swiss National League . In 46 games for the EVZ, Lindberg collected 30 scorer points, including 14 goals. After a year in Switzerland, he moved to HK Dynamo Moscow in the Continental Hockey League .

International

For Sweden , Lindberg took part in the junior division of the U18 World Cup in 2009 and the U20 World Cup in 2011 .

At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was part of the men's national team and won the gold medal with it; just like at the 2017 World Cup .
