Mikhail Jurjewitsch Junkow ( Russian Михаил Юрьевич Юньков ; born February 16, 1986 in Voskressensk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Spartak Moscow in the Continental Hockey League since June 2019 . His brother Alexander is also a hockey player.
Career
Mikhail Junkow began his career as a hockey player with Krylja Sowetow Moscow , for whom he was active from 2002 to 2005, initially in the Russian Super League and, after its relegation in 2003, in the second-rate Wysschaya League . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round as a total of 62nd player by the Washington Capitals , for which he however never played.
Instead, he moved to Ak Bars Kazan in 2005 , with whom he was first Russian champion in the 2005/06 season . In the following season, the attacker and his team again reached the championship final, in which the team was defeated by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk . In addition, the left-handed shooter won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Kazan in 2007 after a convincing 6-0 final victory over HPK Hämeenlinna from the Finnish SM-liiga . In the summer of 2007 Junkow was signed by HK Spartak Moscow for two seasons. In 2009 he returned to Kazan and won the KHL championship trophy , the Gagarin Cup, with Kazan at the end of the 2009/10 season . He was then signed again by Spartak Moscow and played for Spartak until January 2014. Since Spartak had no chance of reaching the play-offs at this time, Junkow was given a compensation payment to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk. With Metallurg he won the Gagarin Cup again in 2014 .
From October 2017 he was under contract with Salawat Julajew Ufa , having previously played for HK CSKA Moscow , HK Awangard Omsk and HK Sochi . In April 2018, his contract with Salawat Julajew Ufa expired and Junkow was subsequently without a club.
In autumn 2018 he was under contract with Severstal Tscherepowez for a short time . Only in June 2019 he was signed again by HK Spartak Moscow .
