Career
Mārtiņš Karsums began his career as a hockey player at HK Lido Nafta Riga , for which he was active in the 2000/01 season. After two years at Prizma Riga , the Latvian moved to the Canadian Junior League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League , where he was on the ice from 2003 to 2006 for the Moncton Wildcats . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round as a total of 64th player by the Boston Bruins . After he had played exclusively for their farm team , the Providence Bruins from the American Hockey League , in the first two years , the attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League for Boston in the 2008/09 season . In six games he managed an assist. Over the course of the season Karsums was given together with Matt Lashoff by the Bruins for Mark Recchi to the Tampa Bay Lightning , for which he scored five scorer points, including one goal, in 18 games by the end of the season.
In the 2009/10 season he was only used by the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL. It was also his most ineffective season in North America. In January 2010 he was loaned to Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League in consultation with the Tampas management . In summer 2010 and 2012 his contract was extended. After the end of the 2012/13 season , Karsums expressed the desire to play for another club and was ultimately transferred to HK Dynamo Moscow in May 2013 . At Dynamo he was under contract until the end of the 2017/18 season and acted there as assistant captain in his last season. In May 2018 he moved to HK Spartak Moscow within the KHL .
