Sergei Sergejewitsch Schirokow ( Russian Сергей Сергеевич Широков ; English transcription: Sergei Sergeyevich Shirokov ; born March 10, 1986 in Osjory , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been with HK Spartak Moscow in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since May 2020 Contract stands and plays there in the position of the left winger . At the 2018 Winter Olympics , Shirokov won the gold medal with the Russian national team under a neutral flag .
Career
Sergei Shirokov began his career as a hockey player in the youth of HK CSKA Moscow , for whose second team he was active in the third-rate Pervaya League from 2001 to 2004 . The attacker then made his debut for the first team of CSKA in the Superliga in the 2004/05 season , in which he remained free of points in eight games in his rookie year . In the following four seasons, the right-shooter became a regular at ZSKA and scored 45 scorer points, including 18 goals, in a total of 64 games in the 2008/09 season in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . During this period, the Russian was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the sixth round as a total of 163 players by the Vancouver Canucks , who ordered him to North America for the 2009/10 season .
In the following two seasons, the Russian was mainly in the farm team at the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League on the ice and scored 103 points in 152 games of the regular season, as well as twelve points in 20 playoff games. At the Manitoba Moose, Schirokow established a franchise record in January 2011 when he scored at least one point in twelve games in a row. On July 1, 2011, the Russian was again committed by HK CSKA Moscow on the Continental Hockey League, where he received a contract for three seasons. On July 9, 2011, the Vancouver Canucks gave its rights to the Florida Panthers in exchange for the rights to Mike Duco .
In November 2013, Shirokov was given to HK Avangard Omsk together with Maxim Gontscharow in exchange for Alexander Frolow and Stanislaw Yegorschew . He played there until the end of December 2015 and then moved to league competitor SKA Saint Petersburg , with whom he won the Gagarin Cup in 2017 . After two and a half years in the northernmost metropolis in the world, he returned to Omsk in 2018. Shirokov played in Omsk for two years before he was transferred to HK Spartak Moscow in May 2020 .
International
For Russia, Shirokov initially took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2004 , where he and his team became world champions. With the U20 selection , he won the silver medal at the U20 Junior World Championships in 2005 and 2006 .
He played with the Russian men's selection at the 2012 , 2014 , 2015 and 2016 World Championships, winning the world championship title in 2012 and 2014 and the bronze medal in 2016. At the Winter Olympics in 2018 in Pyeongchang , he was with the under the Olympic flag and the name Olympic Athletes from Russia starting Sbornaja Olympic champion.
