Jori Lehterä (born December 23, 1987 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Spartak Moscow in the Continental Hockey League since May 2020 . His uncle Tero was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Jori Lehterä began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Jokerit Helsinki, for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga in the 2006/07 season after making his debut for the Finnish U20 national team in the course of the previous year in the second-rate mestis . With Jokerit, the center was runner-up in its rookie year . He then moved to his league rivals Tappara Tampere, where he spent the following three seasons. During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the third round as the 65th player of the St. Louis Blues , for which he never played. Only for their farm team Peoria Rivermen , the national player came towards the end of the 2008/09 season to a total of 14 appearances in the American Hockey League , in which he scored one goal and prepared two more.
In the 2009/10 season Lehterä was able to draw attention to himself when he scored 20 goals and 59 assists for Tappara in a total of 66 games. He was then elected to the All-Star Team of the SM-liiga and received both the Lasse-Oksanen Trophy as the best player in the main round and the Veli-Pekka-Ketola Trophy as the top scorer. With 50 assists he was also the best assists in the main round. After this personally successful for him playing time of the links contactors for was 2010/11 of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League committed. In May 2011 the Finn signed a contract with HK Sibir Novosibirsk .
In July 2014 Lehterä moved to the St. Louis Blues , who had drafted him in 2008, and signed a two-year contract with the Blues. After just one year, however, this was extended until the end of the 2018/19 season. In June 2017, however, the Blues gave it to the Philadelphia Flyers and received Brayden Schenn in return . In addition, Philadelphia received a first-round right to vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional first-round right to vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . Should St. Louis be allowed to draft in the top ten in 2018, the first-round voting right for the NHL Entry Draft 2019 will be postponed and Philadelphia will receive an additional third-round voting right for the NHL Entry Draft 2020 . This did not happen afterwards.
After five years in the NHL, Lehterä returned to the KHL by signing a deal with SKA Saint Petersburg in June 2019 . After a year at SKA and 30 scorer points for the army sports club, Lehterä moved to HK Spartak Moscow .
International
For Finland , Lehterä took part in the 2010 World Cup in Germany , as well as in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 . At the Olympic Games in 2014 he won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team and, a little later, the silver medal at the World Cup of the same year. He also represented his home country at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
