The Spengler Cup 2000 ( French Coupe Spengler 2000 ) was the 74th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 2000 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . A total of 81,321 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 7,392 per game.

The host HC Davos won the tournament by beating Team Canada 4-2 in the final . In the qualification, the Canadians had just won the game 3-2. A 42-year dry spell ended for the HCD with the tournament victory after the hosts last won the tournament in 1958 . It was the eleventh success for the record winner. The defending champion Kölner Haie finished third in the qualification and missed another title win.

The Swede Morgan Samuelsson in the service of the host HC Davos was the most successful player in the tournament with eight points , including four goals. His teammate, the Canadian Lonny Bohonos , was named the most valuable player .

mode

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
