Marco Bayer (* 20th September 1972 in Uster ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player , - coach , and - functionary .

Career

Marco Bayer began his professional career with HC Davos in the National League B . After just one season, Bayer moved to EHC Chur . In his first season in Chur he was promoted to National League A , but after one season they were relegated again. This season he moved to Zürcher SC . After two years with the Lions, Bayer moved on to city rivals Kloten Flyers . In 1999 he switched to EV Zug . After two years in Zug, Marco Bayer went back to his home club HC Davos. However, after just one season, he switched to HC Ambrì-Piotta . After three seasons Bayer moved to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers . After three years on the upper Lake Zurich , Marco Bayer continued his career with the SCL Tigers . Bayer ended his hockey career in 2009 after two seasons.

After his career in late 2009 Bayer was assistant coach of Christian Weber in the SCL Tigers. Weber was released after one season and Bayer followed him to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers at the end of the season. There he received a one-year contract, but was fired at the beginning of February 2011 together with head coach Christian Weber after the team had missed the qualification for the playoffs.

From the 2015/16 season he was employed as a junior coach at SC Bern before he was promoted to assistant coach of the professional team in November.

Later, he served as assistant coach of Christian Weber in Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the National League A operates. In the 2017/18 season he was assistant coach at the SCL Tigers . Bayer has been Head of Sports at SCL Tigers since August 1, 2018.
