Damiano Ciaccio (born February 10, 1989 in Grandson ) is an Italo - Swiss ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the SCL Tigers since April 2014 , with whom he has played in the Swiss National League A since 2015 .
Career
Ciaccio began his career at the age of 16 in the junior division of Friborg-Gottéron and was used, for example, for the club's elite A juniors. In the 2006/07 season he made his debut as a substitute goalkeeper in three games in National League A , but was subsequently mainly used by the partner team in National League B , the Young Sprinters Hockey Club . He also played a number of NLB games for the Swiss U20 national ice hockey team , which also took part in NLB games between 2006 and 2009.
In the 2009/10 season he succeeded Olivier Gigon , who had moved to SC Bern , and was a substitute goalkeeper for Sébastien Caron in the NLA squad of Friborg-Gottéron. In December 2009 he extended his contract with Gottéron for two years. During the 2010/11 season he came as the third goalkeeper only to two missions for Friborg-Gottéron and completed the rest of the season on loan at EHC Basel , where he acted as a regular goalkeeper. In March 2011 he prematurely terminated his contract with Friborg-Gottéron at his own request. A few days later he signed a contract with HC La Chaux-de-Fonds , for which he acted as the goalkeeper for the following three years.
Since April 2014 he has been under contract with the SCL Tigers , with whom he was promoted to the National League A in 2015.
International
For Switzerland, Ciaccio has so far participated in two major tournaments, the U18 Junior World Championship in 2007 and the U20 Junior World Championship in Division I in 2009 . In the latter event he was the goalkeeper with the lowest goals against goals and the second best catch rate after the Belarusian Vital Bjalinski and thus contributed significantly to the rise of the Confederates in the top division.
