Sébastien Caron (born June 25, 1980 in Amqui , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was last under contract with the Hamburg Freezers in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Sébastien Caron began his career as a hockey player with the Rimouski Océanic , for which he was active from 1998 to 2000 in the Canadian junior league QMJHL . With Rimouski he first won the Coupe du Président , the championship of the QMJHL, and then the Memorial Cup , the final tournament for the championship of the Canadian Hockey League, in the 1999/2000 season . The goalkeeper played a large part in his team's success and was voted onto the Memorial Cup All-Star Team. He also received the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as best goalkeeper. During his time in Rimouski he was selected in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as a total of 86th player by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season after serving in the two Years earlier, he had worked exclusively for Pittsburgh's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . In his rookie year in the NHL, he was able to convince with an average goal against goal of 2.64 and was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team .

From 2003 to 2006 Caron came regularly for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL and only occasionally played for their AHL farm team, the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. He bridged the lockout during the 2004/05 NHL season in his native Quebec in the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey , where he stood for the Fjord du Saguenay and Mission de Sorel-Tracy between the posts. On August 8, 2006, he signed as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks , for which he played only one game. Instead he ran in the AHL for their farm team, the Norfolk Admirals . Before the turn of the year he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks . Even with the Californians, the Canadian could not prevail and played predominantly in the AHL for the Portland Pirates .

In the summer of 2007 Caron was committed by Friborg-Gottéron from the Swiss National League A , for which he was in goal for three seasons. In August 2010, Caron signed a one-year contract with the Russian club HK Traktor Chelyabinsk from the Continental Hockey League , which was dissolved in November of the same year. Thereupon Caron returned to Switzerland and was signed by HC Lugano .

On July 20, 2011, Caron signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . Due to Caron's excellent performance, the contract was extended in December 2011 to the end of the 2013/14 season.

Due to major personnel problems in the goalkeeping position, he was committed to the Tampa Bay Lightning with a contract until the end of the 2011/12 season in March 2012 and made his debut in the jersey of the Iserlohn Roosters on March 29, 2012 after the elimination of the Iserlohn Roosters from the DEL play-offs Bolts . In June 2012 he was transferred to the Nashville Predators along with three draft picks from the Tampa Bay Lightning, who received Kyle Wilson and Anders Lindbäck in return, as well as a draft pick at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft . Then he returned to Iserlohn.

Shortly after the start of the 2013/14 season, the Roosters Caron took a leave of absence with immediate effect. The parties agreed not to disclose the reasons.
