Jan von Arx (born February 9, 1978 in Thun ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who was active for HC Davos in the National League A for 20 years . His brother Reto was also a hockey player.
Career
Jan von Arx started his career in 1994 at SC Langnau in the National League B . In 1995 he played in the elite A-Juniors of HC Davos and was in the same season his debut in the National League A (NLA) for Davos.
In the 1996/97 season he played 19 games for the Davos Juniors, but was in the HCD NLA squad for most of the season. In the following years he developed into a strong offensive defensive player who has very good shooting and skating technique. The doping case Jan von Arx caused a sensation when he tested positive for cannabis use in March 2006 . In June 2006, von Arx was banned for six months.
In 2004 and 2006 he won the Spengler Cup with HC Davos and in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2015 he became Swiss champion with the same club .
In June 2015, the Arx brothers retired from competitive sports.
Jan von Arx has been a junior coach at HC Davos since August 2015.
International
Jan von Arx played his first game for Switzerland at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1995 . Both at the World Youth Championship in 1997 , and at the World Youth Championship in 1998 , he was part of the squad of the Swiss U20 national team . In 1999 he was appointed to the Swiss national ice hockey team for the first time and took part in the 1999 World Cup, where he scored two goals and two assists in four games.
