Career

As a player

Andreas Lupzig received his first assignments in the professional field in 1985 at EV Landshut in the 1st Bundesliga . The left- wing striker established himself there quickly and impressed with his strong defensive play. In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , Lupzig, whose role model is supposed to have been Sergei Fyodorov , was drawn by the Chicago Blackhawks in a total of 239th place. In 1989 he decided to move to the Kölner Haien . In his first season with the Haien 1989/90 he was the shooting star of the league and also got his first appearances in the national team . The following season, in which the Haie won the runner-up title, the trained industrial clerk was completely absent due to a cruciate ligament injury. In the following seasons he was one of the most important players in the sharks, with whom he was runner-up again in 1993. He celebrated his greatest success two years later when he defeated EV Landshut with the KEC in the first year of the DEL in the final of the play-offs and won the German championship .

He played in Cologne until the end of the 2000/01 season , where he was twice runner-up with the team in 1996 and 2000. Then he decided to accept an offer from Revierlöwen Oberhausen . During the season he moved on to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , with whom he was eliminated in the play-off quarter-finals. He spent the 2002/03 season in the 2nd Bundesliga at Heilbronner EC . After being eliminated in the quarter-finals, Lupzig returned to the starting point of his career at his home club Straubing . There he was team captain in the 2nd Bundesliga for two years. In 2004/05 he failed with the Tigers in the final of the play-offs at EV Duisburg and missed promotion to the DEL. Following this season, he ended his active career due to another serious knee injury.

During his playing days, Lupzig played a total of 91 senior international matches with the German national team , in which he scored eleven goals. He took part in the 1990 , 1995 , 1997 and 1998 World Championships with the German team . He also represented his country at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano .

As a trainer

Even after the end of his professional career, Lupzig still plays ice hockey - in the traditional team of the Kölner Haie. In 2006 he took part in a retraining course to become a specialist in sports management so that he could continue to work in the field of sports. From August 2007 Lupzig worked again as a player observer for the Kölner Haie and was after the dismissal of Doug Mason on September 22, 2008 assistant coach of Clayton Beddoes (until December 2, 2008) at the KEC. Then Lupzig was allowed to work for half a season as assistant coach under André Koslowski for the DNL team of the Kölner Haie, in order to act as head coach of the Cologne Haie school team for the following season. In the 2010/11 season Lupzig worked as a trainer for the Füchse Duisburg in the Oberliga West and also led the team through the preparation for the 2011/12 season. The EVD and Lupzig split three days before the start of the season. Andreas Lupzig has been the trainer of the Bergisch Gladbach ice sports club since September 2017.
