Player career
On the Lake Superior State University team, Clayton Beddoes played college ice hockey in 1990. After four years of study Beddoes went to the AHL to the Providence Bruins , the farm team of the Boston Bruins . By performing well, he was called up to the NHL sixty times in two years .
After a season in the IHL , he made his DEL debut for the Berlin Capitals in 1998 . In a total of 127 games for three clubs (Berlin, Adler Mannheim , Düsseldorfer EG ) he collected 74 points. His last DEL game took place on November 17, 2000 in the Kölnarena . At that time DEG was able to win 5: 4 against the Haie . This was followed by 18 games in the WCHL and WSV Sterzing in Serie A in Italy . In 2002 he had to end his playing career because of shoulder problems.
Coaching career
At the Iserlohn Roosters , he took up his first assistant coach position in 2005, following in the footsteps of Teal Fowler, who was celebrated in Iserlohn . The trained carpenter's mentor at the Roosters was Doug Mason , whom he also accompanied to the Kölner Haien after Mason's move in April 2006 . After Mason was fired on September 22, 2008, Beddoes took over the post of head coach but was fired by the club's management on December 2, 2008 in response to the team's ongoing crisis. On July 31, 2009 it was announced that Beddoes would succeed Jamie Bartman as assistant coach with the Frankfurt Lions . The employment relationship as head coach of the team, which is now playing as Löwen Frankfurt, was terminated at the end of March 2012.
For the 2012/13 season he was hired as head coach of the Italian first division club SG Cortina . He stayed there until the end of the 2013/14 season and then returned to North America for a year: In the 2014/15 season he worked as a player development coach for the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL.
In April 2015 he was introduced as the new head coach of WSV Sterzing , so he returned to South Tyrol and Serie A and to the club where he had ended his playing career.
For the 2017/18 season he switched to the German Ice Hockey League as assistant coach at ERC Ingolstadt , but left the club at the end of the season.
Clayton Beddoes has been the head coach of the Italian national team since autumn 2017 , which he previously looked after as an assistant coach.
In March 2019 he was introduced as the new head coach of HC Bozen . However, he continues to oversee the Italian national team.
