history

The winter sports club Sterzing was founded in 1948. In the mid-1990s, the other winter sports sections were separated. The team played in Serie A from 1997 to 2002 . The club also played in the Alpine League . In the 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 seasons, the club did not send a senior team to the championship for economic reasons. From autumn 2004 Sterzing played again in the A2 series. In the summer of 2010, the WSV Sterzing Broncos club tried to climb over the green table to the first Italian league ( Serie A1 ). An agreement was planned with EV Bozen 84 , as the association had initially given the Broncos the condition to find a club as a farm team from the A2 series. The Italian Ice Hockey Federation (FISG) finally rejected the club's request on July 9th.

In 2011, the Broncos rose to Serie A with the championship title of Serie A2, but had to return to Serie A2 in 2012 after a season in the upper house.

In the 2016/17 season the club was one of the founding members of the cross-border Alpine Hockey League .
