The Series B (until 2014 series A2 ) was until 2017 under the Serie A the second highest Hockey -Liga Italy . Since the Serie A2 teams were banned from participating in the INL (second Austrian league) after a season , it was decided to merge the former Serie A1 and Serie A2 . As a result, the teams from the former Serie C moved up. The league was organized by the Italian Ice Sports Federation.
In the 2015/16 season, 16 teams competed in the championship. In 2017, Serie B was replaced by the Italian Hockey League as part of a league reform .
