history

It was founded in 1968. In the 1970s, the club celebrated its first successes with two championship titles in the A2 series . The club achieved the first Italian championship title in the club's history in the 1985/86 season. Another championship followed in 1999, before the club relegated to Serie A2 in 2004. In 2008 HC Meran stopped playing and went into bankruptcy, after a year before the game could only be maintained through a partnership with HC Bozen .

In September 2002, the HC Meran Junior was founded in addition to the HC Meran, which initially only looked after the Merano ice hockey youngsters and celebrated great successes thanks to serious work. In the 2008/09 season, the first team took part in Serie C (U26) and won their championship.

At the beginning of 2009, the club's board decided to exercise the right to promotion to the A2 series. Bruno Aegerter as head coach and Esa Siren , who worked at SV Kaltern six years ago , as his assistant, were signed up as coach for the 2009/10 season . Aegerter was already a coach in Merano in the 2006/07 season and won the A2 series championship with the team.

HC Meran has been playing in Serie B since 2014 and the former captain Massimo Ansoldi has been hired as a coach. In the 2015/16 season, the team managed to win the Serie B title.

In 2020 HC Meran won the Coppa Italia for the first time in the club's history under the coach Massimo Ansoldi .
