Oleg Viktorovich Petrov ( Russian Олег Викторович Петров ; born April 18, 1971 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player . Between 1992 and 2003 he completed 402 games in the National Hockey League for the Montréal Canadiens and Nashville Predators , in which he scored 73 goals and 121 assists. He then had a long contract with EV Zug from the National League A , rather he let his career end with Ak Bars Kazan , Atlant Mytishchi and Lokomotive Yaroslavl from the Continental Hockey League . After retiring in December 2013, he was a member of the Lokomotive coaching staff.

Career

Oleg Petrow began his career with the Russian series champion HK CSKA Moscow , with whom he won the Spengler Cup in 1991 . In the same year he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1991 in 127th place by the Montréal Canadiens and in 1992 moved to the NHL for the first time. In 1993 he won the Stanley Cup with the Montréal Canadiens , although he was only used in one playoff game. In the following years he always shuttled back and forth between the Canadiens farm team , the Fredericton Canadiens in the AHL and the NHL squad, without finally establishing himself in the NHL. So in 1996 he decided to move to Europe - first to the Italian Serie A , later to the NLA for HC Ambrì-Piotta , for which he played three seasons and developed into a top scorer in the NLA (e.g. 1997 season / 98 : 40 games, 30 goals and 63 assists and 11 more goals and 11 assists in 20 playoff games).

After participating in the 1998 World Cup, Petrov decided to return to the NHL. He played together with the captain of the Canadiens, Saku Koivu, in a row and continuously improved his points. In the 2000/01 season he set personal records with 17 goals and 30 assists and was able to achieve 7 more goals in the following season . After a mixed start into the 2002/03 season , he was then transferred to the Nashville Predators.

In the 2003/2004 season , Petrow returned to Switzerland and signed with HC Servette Genève . A year later, the EV Zug signed him for three years and Petrow became the top scorer in the main NLA round with 29 goals. In October 2007 he was signed by Ak Bars Kazan, who reacted to the bad start of the season and paid a transfer fee of 300,000 francs to the EVZ. After Jukka Hentunen he was the second player to move from the NLA to Kazan in the 2007/08 season. From 2009 to 2011 Petrov played for Atlant Mytishchi . He was then without a club before he joined his ex-club Ak Bars Kazan in November 2011.

Between August 2012 and January 2013 he was under contract with HK Spartak Moscow before he was exchanged by Spartak for Daniil Jerdakow from Lokomotive Yaroslavl .

After retiring in December 2013, he was part of the Lokomotive coaching staff for the 2013/14 season.

International

In 1989 Petrov represented his home country for the first time at an international tournament, the 1989 European Junior Championship. Two years later he was a member of the U20 national team, which won the silver medal at the 1991 Junior World Cup . At the 1998 and 1999 World Cups he finished fifth with the Russian national team , and in 2000 the Sbornaja with Petrov in the squad only reached eleventh place.

He also took part in the World Cup of Hockey 2004 , but was not used in any game.
