Agris Saviels (born January 15, 1982 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Mogo from the Latvian ice hockey league since 2014 .
Career
Agris Saviels began his playing career at HK Lido Nafta Riga , for which he played for the first time in the Latvian ice hockey league in the 1996/97 season . In 1998 he moved to North America to the Notre Dame Hounds , a junior team from Saskatchewan . A year later, the Owen Sound Platers of the Ontario Hockey League signed him before he was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft 2000 by the Colorado Avalanche in 63rd place.
In the 2000/01 season he made his debut with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League , but played for Owen Sound until the summer of 2002. Then he was used by the Avalanche with the Bears without ever playing an NHL game. In the summer of 2005 he therefore decided to move to Europe, where he played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the second Russian division. In the 2006/07 season he was under contract with MsHK Žilina in the Slovak Extra League.
In the summer of 2007 he first moved to the Herning Blue Fox in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen , but could not convince those responsible there and signed with the league competitor Odense Ishockey Klub . In the summer of 2008 he was taken by Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) under contract, but could not prevail. Therefore, in January he moved to Metallurg Schlobin in the Belarusian extra league . In early September 2010 he signed a one-year contract with HC Valpellice from the Italian A1 series . After another season in the top Italian league, this time in the service of WSV Sterzing Broncos , the contract was signed with HK Kompanjon-Naftohas Kiev in summer 2012 .
In the 2013/14 season he first played in the domestic Latvian ice hockey league for HK Kurbads before moving to the Rødovre Mighty Bulls in the Danish Metal Ligaen in January 2014 .
Since the summer of 2014, Saviels has been under contract with HK Mogo in Latvia, with whom he was once Latvian champion and three times cup winner .
International
Agris Saviels has played in three Junior World Championships for the Latvian U18 and U20 junior selection . In addition to being appointed to the squad for the 2006 Winter Olympics , he was used at several men's world championships ( 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2013 ).
