The 1986/87 season of the ice hockey Bundesliga was the 29th season of the highest German ice hockey league . The Cologne EC became the German champions , making them the first team to defend their title in 17 years. It was also the fifth German championship of the Domstadters.

The ten-time German champions SC Riessersee , however, failed in the relegation, the place of the Garmisch took the team of the BSC Preussen from Berlin .
