Pierre Rioux (born February 1, 1962 in Québec City , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , coach , functionary and scout , who in the course of his active career between 1979 and 2000, among other things, 14 games for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League (NHL) as well as 220 others for the Düsseldorfer EG and Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on the position of the left winger .

Career

Rioux played three years with the Cataractes de Shawinigan in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ). During this time he won the gold medal at the 1982 Junior World Championship in the United States with the Canadian team coached by Dave King . Bruce Eakin was also on the Canadian team with him . In 1982 he was signed by the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League (NHL). After he had started the season in the farm team with the Colorado Flames , he was called on December 7, 1982 to play against the Los Angeles Kings in the Calgary squad. Already after 2:30 minutes he scored his first and only goal in the NHL on a pass from Kent Nilsson . It was followed by two games in January before he made it to the NHL team for eleven games in March. In the first two he prepared a goal each, after which he could no longer enter himself in the scorer list. In the following years he was only used in the various farm teams, where he met Eakin again. In the Moncton Golden Flames , he was in the 1984/85 season in the First All-Star Team of the American Hockey League selected (AHL).

For the 1986/87 season he moved to Krefeld EV and was by far the best scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga North . He was also able to win the Spengler Cup 1986 with Team Canada . This was followed by a move to Kalevan Pallo in Finland, where he played again on the side of Bruce Eakin in the 1987/88 season. Several years followed in the 2nd Bundesliga in Germany. After a year for EC Ratingen , he played four seasons for SV Bayreuth . In the 1993/94 season he strengthened the Düsseldorfer EG and met his companion Eakin there in his second year. For the 1995/96 season he joined the Heilbronn EC and was able to gain his first experience as a player- coach after Sascha Barinew's dismissal .

The next station was again in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). Rioux played three seasons for the Augsburg Panthers and made it into the top ten scorers in the league in the 1997/98 season . His last season in the DEL was the 1999/2000 season with the Kassel Huskies . Then he returned to his home town of Quebec and still played lower class. He then coached smaller teams, was active in the youth league LHJMQ with the Remparts de Québec and Moncton Wildcats as an assistant coach, before he worked as a scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2009 to 2015 . From 2016 he was first assistant coach and later co-general manager at the Océanic de Rimouski . In 2019 he took over the post of General Manager at Drakkar de Baie-Comeau .
