The 1952/53 season of the ice hockey league was the fifth season of the highest German ice hockey league . German champion was EV Füssen , who won his second championship title. The EV Rosenheim had to relegate from the league , which was replaced by SC Weßling , the winner of the promotion round. The penultimate Düsseldorfer EG , however, won the relegation against the runner-up in the promotion round, the LTTC Rot-Weiß Berlin .

In contrast to the previous year, the German champions were played again in a single round, so that each club played a home and an away game against the other teams. The last placed rose at the end of the season directly from the league and was replaced by the first of the promotion round, while the penultimate of the league in the relegation against the second placed in the promotion round had to defend his starting place in the top division.
