The Spengler Cup 1981 ( French Coupe Spengler 1981 ) was the 55th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 30th, 1981 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there , which was used as a completely closed ice rink for the first time as part of the tournament, served as the venue.
The winner of the HC Spartak Moscow , which all its four matches won, before the host HC Davos . Spartak Moscow, defending the title they in the previous year had won the first time, continuing the title wins Soviet capital clubs. With the University of Minnesota , an American college team took part in the tournament. The Russian Igor Kapustin was the most successful player in the tournament with eight points , including six goals.
As a result of the tournament, the tournament winners from Moscow and TJ Vítkovice played two more friendly matches in Kreuzlingen and Lucerne on January 1 and 2, 1982 - as in the previous year . Vítkovice won the first comparison with 5: 2 and thus returned the favor for the defeat in the course of the Spengler Cup. In the second meeting Spartak won 4-2. The University of Minnesota also played another test match against Eintracht Frankfurt's ice hockey department , which ended in a 4-4 draw.
