The Spengler Cup 1988 ( French Coupe Spengler 1988 ) was the 62nd edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 1988 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue .

It was won by the USA Selects , who won the tournament for the first time with a clear 8-1 victory over Team Canada in a purely North American duel. Already in the qualification they had clearly defeated the Canadians 8: 3. For the US association selection, which was composed of legionnaires and college players in the same way as Team Canada , it was the only success in the Spengler Cup in their first of only two participations. The Russian Sergei Prjachin was the most successful player in the tournament with nine points , including two goals.

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
