The Spengler Cup 2001 ( French Coupe Spengler 2001 ) was the 75th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 2001 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . A total of 82,390 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 7,490 per game.

The winner was the host HC Davos , who won the tournament with a 4: 3 victory after extra time in the final in the new edition of the previous year's final over Team Canada . In qualifying, the Canadians had just won the game 6: 5 in extra time. The HCD was able to successfully defend its title after winning last year . It was the overall twelfth success for the record winner.

The Czech Jaroslav Hlinka was the most successful player in the tournament with five points , including three goals. The Finn Petteri Nummelin was named the most valuable player .

mode

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
