Rob Shearer (born October 19, 1976 in Kitchener , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with the EC VSV in the Austrian ice hockey league.
Career
Rob Shearer began his career as an ice hockey player with the Windsor Spitfires , for which he was active from 1993 to 1996 in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League . During this period he received on October 5, 1995 a contract as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche , for which he was in the 2000/01 season his debut in the National Hockey League on the ice, in which he remained pointless and punished. The remaining time in the five years from 1996 to 2001, in which the center was active in the Colorado Avalanche franchise, he spent with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Hershey Bears , with whom he won the Calder in the 1996/97 season Cup won. In the summer of 2001 Shearer moved to Europe, where he initially played for the reigning Finnish champions TPS Turku in the SM-liiga for a year before he was active for the Eisbären Berlin in the DEL from 2002 to 2005 . With the polar bears, the Canadian was first runner-up in 2004, before winning the championship with the capital city in the following year . Following this success, the former NHL player joined the EHC Linz from the Austrian Ice Hockey League , for which he played until 2011.
In the summer of 2011 he returned to North America and received a contract with the Reading Royals from the ECHL . In January 2012 he asked to terminate his contract and returned to Europe, where he was signed by the EC VSV .
