The Spengler Cup 1977 ( French Coupe Spengler 1977 ) was the 51st edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 30th, 1977 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue .

It won the SKA Leningrad , the three of his four matches won, before the ASD Dukla Jihlava . Following the game between the two teams, which Leningrad won 2-0, a penalty shoot-out had to be decided due to the equality of points between the two teams. Leningrad won the same and thus secured the title for the third time after 1970 and 1971 . As in previous years, the host HC Davos did not take part in the tournament and was represented on the Swiss side by the national team .

Due to persistent snowfall, the game between ASD Dukla Jihlava and Cologne EC was canceled after the end of the second period at a score of 7: 1 for Jihlava and scored with a victory for the Czechoslovak Army Club. The same was true of the match between the Swiss national team and AIK Stockholm , which was not played due to the snowfall and was therefore not included in the tournament ranking. The Czechoslovak Jirí Holík was the most successful player in the tournament with five points , including four goals.

As a result of the tournament, the tournament winners from Leningrad and Jihlava played another friendly game in Kreuzlingen on January 1, 1978 . Jihlava won the game 4: 2 and was able to take revenge for the loss suffered in the tournament.

mode

The five participating teams played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The team with the highest points won the tournament.
