The Spengler Cup 1980 ( French Coupe Spengler 1980 ) was the 54th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 30th, 1980 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there , which was still being expanded and was last used when it was not completely closed , acted as the venue .

It won the first time HK Spartak Moscow , who won three of its four games, before the TJ Vítkovice . With HC Davos , which had re- established itself in the National League A after being promoted again , the host took part in the tournament for the first time since 1973 . The hosts, known as “HC Davos Selection” , strengthened themselves for the tournament with three players from Zurich SC - Warren Anderson , Kent Ruhnke and Lorenzo Schmid - as well as Bernard Gagnon from EHC Kloten and John Harrington from HC Lugano . The Czechoslovak Ladislav Svozil was the most successful player in the tournament with seven points , including four goals.

With a total of 44,140 spectators, a new record was set for the tournament.

In the two days after the tournament, the tournament winners from Moscow and TJ Vítkovice played two more friendly matches in Kreuzlingen and Lucerne on January 1 and 2, 1981 . Moscow clearly won the first comparison with 8: 3. In the second meeting, both teams drew 2: 2.

mode

The five participating teams played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The team with the highest points won the tournament.
