Lorenzo "Lolo" Schmid (born January 18, 1955 in Arosa ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player .

Career

Lolo Schmid, who grew up in Arosa , spent his entire junior career at EHC Arosa . For the 1971/72 season he was called up as a striker in the first team and quickly developed into a mainstay of the club alongside storm partners such as Guido Lindemann , Markus Lindemann or Jöri Mattli . After graduating from high school in 1976, Schmid switched to Zürcher SC and began studying law in Zurich , which he completed in 1983.

Lolo Schmid lived through sporty times with Zürcher SC: Between 1981 and 1984 he rose twice from National League B to National League A and then relegated again. For the 1984/85 season he switched back to his parent club in exchange with Reto Sturzenegger , with which he was third in the Swiss championship in 1985. After the voluntary relegation of the EHC Arosa to the first division - which he tried to prevent with great dedication to the end - Schmid switched to the EHC Chur for one more season before ending his sports career.

In the national team , of which he was captain from 1984 to 1986, Lolo Schmid played various international matches. To this day, he is the last Swiss ice hockey player to be accepted into the national team as a member of a club from the second division. Despite his long and successful career with renowned teams, Schmid was never able to achieve a championship title.

Since the end of his playing career, Lolo Schmid has been a legal advisor to EHC Arosa and a lawyer in Arosa and Chur. Since 1993 he has also been Chairman of the Arosa mountain railways , since 2007 Board of Arosa Kulm Hotel AG and since October 2010, Mayor of Arosa. In 1999 Schmid ran as a member of the CVP for the National Council , but was not elected to it.
