The Walliser Bote , often referred to simply as WB , is a Swiss daily newspaper . It is the only daily newspaper in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais and appears from Monday to Saturday.

history

The Walliser Bote , founded in 1840 for the first time, is the oldest newspaper in Valais , albeit with an interruption. In 1851 the Walliser Bote was re-established in Sion and appeared this time until 1857 and then from 1858 to 1869 under the name Walliser Wochenblatt . In July 1869, the newspaper reverted to its original name, Walliser Bote . In 1932 Klaus Mengis and the printing company he founded the previous year took over the publication of the Walliser Bote . Three years later the frequency was expanded to three issues a week.

The merger with the liberal-conservative Walliser Nachrichten in 1961 marked the beginning of the company's rise to become the dominant newspaper in Upper Valais. It was not until 1969 that it became a daily newspaper with six issues . Even if the Walliser Bote was the party newspaper of the blacks ( Catholic Conservatives , later CVP ) until 1981 , it can already be described as an "independent newspaper" after the editorial restructuring that took place in 1971. But even after saying goodbye to the party newspaper on November 18, 1981, the Walliser Bote remains the CVP's publication organ. In 1979 the sheet was printed in four colors for the first time and early delivery was introduced in 2003.

In 2018 the Upper Valais entrepreneur Fredy Bayard took over the majority of shares in Mengis Druck und Verlags AG including Walliser Boten and other media.

Further products

From 2000 to 2011, the WB extra magazine was published every 14 days (circulation: 36,851 copies) as a free supplement to the Walliser Bote .

Since November 2004 , the Walliser Bote and the WB have been presenting themselves on the joint information portal WB.online . In July 2010, WB.online in the new Oberwalliser news portal 1815.ch integrated.

The Upper Valais party portal Snaplife.ch was taken over by the Walliser Boten in summer 2009 .
