history

In addition to the French-language newspapers Le Conféderé de Friborg (1848), Le Chroniqueur (1854) and Le Journal de Friborg (1859), the bilingual canton of Friborg lacked a German-language newspaper.

On January 3, 1863, the first German-language weekly newspaper Die Sense appeared , published by the publisher of Chroniqueur , Heliodor Rämy. When he sold the two newspapers, the scythe was discontinued in late 1863. At the end of 1894 a new attempt was made, this time by the Imprimerie catholique (today Pauluswerk ) with the Freiburg newspaper . It first appeared twice, then three times a week, from December 7, 1915 daily. In the subtitle, the newspaper later had the addition "Anzeiger für die western Switzerland" and even later "Daily newspaper for western Switzerland". In 1904 it changed its name in the still existing Freiburger Nachrichten , since 2008 with the subtitle “The only German-language daily newspaper in the bilingual canton of Freiburg”. Until 1973 it was strongly committed to conservative ideas by tradition. After that, the Freiburger Nachrichten opened up denominationally and politically.

From 1925 to 1963, the Freiburger Nachrichten published a header called Neue Berner Nachrichten , which provided the Catholics in the Bernese diaspora with news.

From February 5, 1998, the Freiburger Nachrichten received the national parts of the Solothurner Zeitung , since September 1, 2001, after it had joined the Mittelland-Zeitung (today az Nordwestschweiz ), from the Berner Zeitung and since 2018 from the new one German-speaking main editorial team of Tamedia .

In 2010, the Freiburger Nachrichten AG took over the two local newspapers, Der Murtenbieter and Anzeiger von Kerzers, from Espace Media Groupe AG . The Murtenbieter has been providing information on the most important events in the city and region of Murten since 1854 . It appears twice a week, once a month in large numbers. The Kerzers Anzeiger appears once a week in Kerzers and the surrounding area.
