Håkan Loob (born July 3, 1960 in Visby ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League from 1983 to 1990 . Since retiring in 1996, he has been in the management of his home club, Färjestad BK .
Career
At the age of 20 he was Swedish champion with Färjestad BK in the 1980/81 season . In the 1980 NHL Entry Draft , the Calgary Flames secured the rights to him in the ninth round as 181st. After excellent performances with Färjestad in the 1982/83 season, he moved to North America.
Many scouts had doubts as to whether he would be able to cope with the rigors of the NHL, but he belied that and was called up in his first season in the NHL All-Rookie Team . At the ice hockey world championship in Vienna in 1987 he was able to win another world championship title for Sweden after 25 years.
In the 1987/88 season he was the first Swedish player to reach the 50-goal mark in a regular season. With 106 points it was his most successful season. In the following season 1988/89 he won the Stanley Cup with the Flames . He then returned to Sweden to Färjestad BK. He won his second world title at the ice hockey world championship in Finland in 1991 .
At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he was able to win Olympic gold with the Swedish national team. He is one of nine Swedish players who have become Olympic, World and Stanley Cup winners ( Triple Gold Club ).
In 1996 he ended his active career and took on other functions at Färjestad BK. He is currently working there as General Manager . Since the 2005/06 season , the Elitserien have given the best striker of a season the Håkan Loob Trophy , which is named after the former attacker, who with 42 goals in the 1982/83 season still holds the record for the most goals in a season Swedish elite league holds.
Between 1996 and 2008 he was General Manager of Färjestad BK , then President of the club for six years, then President of Hockey Operations and again General Manager in the 2016/17 season.
