The Spengler Cup 1974 ( French Coupe Spengler 1974 ) was the 48th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from 26 to 31 December 1974 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . The tournament was won by Slovan ChZJD Bratislava .

Attendees

With the national teams from Switzerland, Poland and the Netherlands, a Finnish Olympic team and last year's winner Slovan Bratislava as the only club team, the 48th edition of the Spengler Cup was not contested as a club but as a national team tournament for the first time. The cause of this change was the desire for the Swiss national ice hockey team to participate and for a field that was nevertheless balanced. For sporting reasons, Slovan Bratislava, Spengler Cup winner in 1972 and 1973, was invited again.

Half of the Finnish selection team consisted of established players such as Esa Peltonen , Jorma Valtonen , Pekka Rautakallio and Timo Nummelin and the other half of young players. As favorite to win the tournament were the defending champions Slovan Bratislava (with Marcel Sakac , Milan Kužela , Ľubomír Ujváry , Jozef Bukovinský and Rudolf Tajcnár , Július Haas , Milan Mrukvia ) and the Polish national ice hockey team with players like Robert Góralczyk , Walery Kosyl , Andrzej Tkacz , Tadeusz Obłój , Adam Kopczyński and Stefan Chowaniec .

mode

The five participating teams played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The team with the highest points won the tournament.
