Július Haas

Július Haas (born September 28, 1948 in Žilina , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player who played for Slovan Bratislava in the top division of the Czechoslovakia for ten years and took part in two world championships with the Czechoslovak national team . Since the end of his playing career, he has been working as an ice hockey coach .

Career as a player

Július Haas began his career in 1956 in the offspring of the ZVL Žilina . In 1967, at the age of 19, he moved to Slovan Bratislava and made his debut in the first division , the top division of Czechoslovakia. In the following ten seasons, the left winger played exclusively for Slovan before returning to ZVL Žilina in 1977. In the season 1972/73 he was the most successful top scorer in the league with 32 goals.

In 1978 he moved to TS Topoľčany , where he acted as a player-coach in the 1978/79 season before ending his playing career. In total, he scored 172 goals in 339 games in the Czechoslovak League.

International

In addition to his club-level successes, Július Haas was a regular for the Czechoslovak national team in the early 1970s. In 1968 he took part in the Junior European Championship with the junior selection of the ČSSR. He won the bronze medal at his first senior world championship in 1970 . Two years later, at the 1972 Ice Hockey World Championship , he became world champion. He played a total of 45 games in the national jersey, in which he scored 21 goals.

Career as a coach

Haas has been working as an ice hockey coach since the end of his playing career. After he had gained his first experience as a coach at TS Topoľčany , he later took over the training of the B team from Dukla Trenčín . He also coached the Slovan Bratislava U18 juniors and later became the assistant coach of Jozef Golonka in the Slovan men's team.

In the course of his career he was the head coach of Slovan Bratislava, Dukla Trenčín and other clubs in the Slovak national league 1st SNHL .
