Rudolf "Slon" Tajcnár (born April 17, 1948 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ; † August 2, 2005 ibid) was a Czechoslovak ice hockey player who played for HC Slovan Bratislava and the Czechoslovak national team in the position of defender for many years .
Career
Rudolf Tajcnár began his career in 1959 with HC Slovan Bratislava . In 1966 he was called up for military service and performed this at Dukla and VSŽ Košice between 1966 and 1968. After this time he returned to Slovan and played for his hometown club until 1976. In 1973 he won the Spengler Cup with his team . In 300 first division games, he scored 63 goals. In a friendly match in Ascona during the Christmas break in 1977, he pulled away from his team. With the help of HC Ambrì-Piotta , the escape succeeded, but he was only allowed to play for this club after an 18-month ban. During this time he played in the United States for the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League , with whom he won the Calder Cup in 1977/78 . In the following season he went for the Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association and for the Spokane Flyers , the farm team of the Philadelphia Flyers , on the ice.
Between 1979 and 1981 he played for HC Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss National League B . In a total of 72 games in the NLB, the defender scored 23 goals and 42 assists. After his time in Ambrì, he worked as a player-coach in Ascona for a few years.
Rudolf Tajcnár died in his apartment at the end of July 2005. A year later he was inducted into the Slovak ice hockey hall of fame .
International
For the Czechoslovak national team, Rudolf Tajcnár took part in several international championships. For the ice hockey world championship in 1971 he received his first appointment and won the silver medal. A year later Tajčnar became world champion with the CSSR selection and won the bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo . He scored a total of nine goals in 54 international matches for Czechoslovakia.
