Sandro Rizzi (born October 22, 1978 in Samedan ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player ( center ) who played for HC Davos for 18 years and was Swiss champion five times and won the Spengler Cup .

Career

Sandro Rizzi began his career at EHC St. Moritz before moving to HC Davos in 1997 . In the 1996/97 season he made his debut in the National League A (NLA) for Davos. In the following season he completed three more games for the elite A-Juniors of the HCD, but was otherwise used in the NLA. From 1998 he was a permanent member of the NLA squad of the HCD and developed into a defensively strong striker, who is characterized above all by good checking, excellent game analysis and his combat-oriented game. In 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 he became Swiss champion with HC Davos, and the team also won the Spengler Cup several times .

In February 2008, Sandro Rizzi extended his contract with HC Davos for another four years.

In March 2014, at the age of 35, he ended his career at HC Davos after 18 years, for which he played 870 games.

International

Sandro Rizzi played his first game for Switzerland in an international competition at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1995 . In the following two years he played for the Swiss U20 national team at the Junior World Championship in 1996 and the Junior World Championship in 1997 . In 1999 he was appointed to the Swiss national team for the first time and was on the ice for Switzerland at the 1999 World Cup .

Trainer

In October 2018 he became Arno Del Curto's assistant coach at HC Davos, having previously worked for the club in the field of player screening and fan teams.
