Career
Beginnings and successes at Sparta Prague
Jaroslav Hlinka started playing ice hockey at the age of four and was offered an offer from HC Sparta Prague to play for their junior team at the age of 14 . Hlinka then went through the youth teams of the club and made his debut in the Czech extra league in the 1994/95 season . In the following years he played mainly for Sparta, but also had repeated appearances for teams in the second-class first division , such as HC Slovan Ústí nad Labem or HC Berounští Medvědi . In the 1999/2000 season he won his first Czech championship title with Sparta and contributed 57 scorer points to this success . Two years later, HC Sparta Prague was able to repeat this title win and Hlinka was the best assists in the league with 45 assists . In 13 playoff games, he achieved another 15 points scorer and thus contributed significantly to winning the championship.
Change abroad
Because of these outstanding achievements, the management of Kloten Flyers decided to sign Hlinka. Between 2002 and 2006 he played 121 games in the National League A for Kloten, in which he scored 48 goals and provided 78 assists. This time in Switzerland was only interrupted by the 2004/05 season, which he spent with the Russian super league club Ak Bars Kazan . At the end of the 2005/06 season he asked to terminate his contract in Kloten and moved to his home club, with which he won another championship title. In the following season he was both top scorer of the Extraliga, as well as top template provider of the playoffs and added another championship title with Sparta to his collection of titles.
These outstanding performances in the top division of the Czech Republic moved the management of the Colorado Avalanche to commit Hlinka for the 2007/08 season . On October 3, 2007 he scored his first two NHL scorer points against the Dallas Stars . In the same month, on October 23, he also scored his first NHL goal against the Edmonton Oilers . At the Avalanche he usually played in a line with his compatriot Milan Hejduk and Paul Stastny , who has Slovak roots.
Leading player at Linköpings HC and Sparta Prague
In May 2008, Hlinka signed a two-year contract with Linköpings HC from the Swedish Elitserien, where he met his former coach Slavomír Lener . In the 2008/09 season , his first at the LHC, Hlinka led the scorer ranking of his team with 55 points and recorded the most assists in the league. At the beginning of the following season he was loaned to his home club for tax reasons, returned to the LHC in late September 2009 and scored 50 points scorer in 41 games in the main round.
On August 8, 2012, Hlinka returned to Sparta Prague again, but this time initially received a trial contract until November 2012, which was later extended to the end of the 2012/13 season. Hlinka has been assistant captain at Sparta since 2013 and, with 4 scorer points from 8 games, was one of the best players on his team in the 2014/15 Champions Hockey League . From 2015 he was team captain of Sparta and reached the runner-up with the club in 2016. In the 2017/18 season, his offensive performance fell sharply, so that he did not receive a new contract in April 2018.
International
In addition to his success with Sparta Prague, Jaroslav Hlinka has also impressed in international championships: between 2001 and 2009 he played for the Czech national team in eight ice hockey world championships and won a gold and a silver medal.
Since 2009, Hlinka has been used sporadically in international matches on the Euro Hockey Tour . In total, Hlinka has played 145 international matches for the Czech Republic, in which he scored 29 goals.
