Miroslav Hlinka (born August 31, 1972 in Trenčín , Czechoslovakia ; † September 14, 2014 in Banská Bystrica ) was a Slovak ice hockey player who played for HC Dukla Trenčín and HC 05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovak Extraliga as well as was active for HC Sparta Prague , HC Pardubice and HC Zlín in the Czech extra league.

Career

National

Miroslav Hlinka began his career as a hockey player with HC Dukla Trenčín , for whose professional team he made his debut in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak division, in the 1990/91 season . In the following season, the attacker won the national championship for the first time with his team . In the 1993/94 season he was the first champion with Dukla in the newly founded Slovak Extra League . Following this success he moved to HC Sparta Prague in the Czech extra league , for which he was on the ice for the following five years. He started the 1999/2000 season at HC Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia and finished it at Jokerit Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga , with whom he was runner-up behind TPS Turku .

For the 2000/01 season Hlinka moved to HC Karlovy Vary , before he spent the following two seasons with MODO Hockey in the Swedish Elitserien . He began the 2003/04 season at HK Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Super League . During the year he was signed by HC Zlín , with whom he became Czech champion . The following season the world champion from 2002 spent at his ex-club HC Dukla Trenčín and the MsHK Žilina . The left shooter then ran for three years for HC Pardubice in the Czech extra league, ending the 2007/08 season at his ex-club HC Sparta Prague. For the 2008/09 season, the winger left the capital city again and signed with the second division KLH Chomutov . From 2009 to 2011 he played for HC 05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovak Extra League. In the 2011/12 season he played for his league rivals HK Poprad before returning to HC 05 Banská Bystrica in February 2012. In the 2013/14 season he ran for HK Trnava in the second-rate first division before ending his career. For the following season 2014/15 he was assistant coach at HC 05 Banská Bystrica.

International

For Slovakia , Hlinka took part in the World Championships in 2000 , 2001 , 2002 and 2003, as well as the World Cup of Hockey 2004 .

death

Miroslav Hlinka killed himself in a hotel room in Banská Bystrica yourself . He was found dead on September 14, 2014. Hlinka was 42 years old and had a son and daughter.
