The HC Energie Karlovy Vary is a Czech ice hockey team from Karlovy Vary ( Czech Karlovy Vary ), which since 2018 again at the Czech highest ice hockey league, the Extraliga participates.
history
The club was founded in 1932 and initially only played on a regional level. 1951 succeeded the promotion to the top division of Czechoslovakia, the 1st division . In 1955, the team was able to occupy third place in their season in this competition, which remained the club's greatest success until the 1990s. A year later, he was relegated to the second division and in 1971 even to the third division. Until the mid-1990s, the club moved between the second and third division back and forth, before being promoted to the extra league in 1997. As champions of the first division , the club took part in the extra league relegation. In this the team at HC Slezan Opava failed. After the end of the season, the management of HC Becherovka acquired the license for HC Olomouc and thus rose economically to the top division in the Czech Republic.
Since the 1997/98 season , Energie has belonged to the top division of Czech professional ice hockey. Since 2002 HC Energie has been a subsidiary of KAREL HOLOUBEK - Trade Group as , one of the largest Czech fuel suppliers, which ensures the operation of the ice hockey club and the financial future of the club. At the end of the 2007/08 season, the club reached the final of the Extraliga playoffs. There energy lost to HC Slavia Prague after a total of seven games and reached the runner-up.
During the first season of the newly formed KHL , the club's management expressed an interest in joining this league. For this, a competitive team of Czech national players should be put together on the model of Dinamo Riga and HK Dinamo Minsk , while a second farm team should continue to play in the extra league. But in the wake of the financial crisis these efforts were stopped. In December 2008 , the club took part in the Spengler Cup and took fourth place.
With the championship in the 2008/09 season under coach Josef Paleček - the main round first HC Slavia Prague was defeated 4-2 in the best-of-seven series - the greatest success in the club's history was celebrated.
The club's junior team has played in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League since 2012 .
In the spring of 2017, the professional team had to go into the second division after 20 years in the extra league, but managed to rise again the following year.
In May 2020, the club published a completely revised corporate identity concept to take account of changes in ownership and to give the club a more modern image. Among other things, the club colors were changed to black, white and gray and a new main logo (a stylized E ) and alternative logo were introduced.
