The 1955/56 season of the 1st division was the 13th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . With ten points in the final tournament, Rudá Hvězda Brno prevailed. For the team it was their second Czechoslovak championship .

After the season, the teams from the military sports clubs Tankista Prague and ÚDA Prague went to the army sports club Dukla Olomouc , which took part in the second division .

mode

As in the previous season, the main round should be played in two groups of eight teams each. However, due to the dissolution of Křídla vlasti Olomouc just before the season, Group A consisted of only seven teams. After playing back and forth within the groups, the total number of games per team in the main round was twelve in group A and 14 games in group B. The two best teams in each group qualified for the final tournament, which was also played back and forth and the winners were champions.

At the end of the season, the last of Group B was relegated to the 2nd division and the two group winners of this to the highest Czechoslovak division.

The top scorer in the league was Miroslav Klůc from Baník Chomutov, who scored 26 goals in his team's 20 games.

1st league qualification

The winners of the two 2nd division groups, Tatran Opava and Tatra Smíchov , were accepted into the 1st division.
