The 1986/87 season of the 1st division was the 44th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . In the playoff final, Tesla Pardubice prevailed with 3-2 wins against Dukla Jihlava . For the team it was their second Czechoslovak championship title . Poldi SONP Kladno rose after a year in the second division back to the first division, while the TJ Vítovice was relegated to the second division as bottom of the relegation round.

mode

As in the previous season, the league was played with twelve teams. The total number of games per team in the main round was 34 games. Then the eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs and played the champions there. The other four teams competed in four games against each other in a relegation round, and the bottom of this round had to relegate directly to the respective national championship.

The winners of the Czech and Slovak 2nd division groups competed against each other in a best-of-five series for promotion to the 1st division for the following season. The Czech representative Poldi SONP Kladno prevailed.
