Jiří Lála (born August 21, 1959 in Tábor , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who played for the Frankfurt Lions , the Mannheim ERC and the EV Regensburg .
Career
He started ice hockey in 1969 with the Spartak Sobeslav juniors , before moving to Motor České Budějovice in 1974 at the age of 15 . During his military service from 1980 to 1982 he played for the army club Dukla Jihlava and then returned to Budweis. The managers of the NHL teams became aware of him and he was selected in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft by the Québec Nordiques in the fourth round as 76th, but never played overseas. After 510 games with 297 goals in the Czech Republic, he moved to Germany in 1989.
He immediately became the top scorer at his new club Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga season 1989/90 and was able to repeat this the following year. In his third season in the Bundesliga, he moved to Mannheim's ERC, for which he successfully hunted for points for three years. For the 1994/95 DEL season he returned to Frankfurt, where the team was now called Frankfurt Lions .
After a trip to Great Britain, where he played for the Ayr Scottish Eagles , he returned to Germany in 1997 and played for the ERC Selb and until 2002 for the EV Regensburg , where he became player- coach in January 2002 and after his career in the summer of 2002 until 2006 worked as a sports manager.
His sons Jiří Lála junior and Josef Lala are also ice hockey players.
International
For Czechoslovakia he played in 203 internationals, in which he scored 89 goals. He played at the World Championships in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1986, where he won the gold medal in 1985 . He won an Olympic silver medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics and was also part of the national team at the 1988 Winter Games.
