The ASV Hamm rose again and played from the 1994/95 season in the new second-highest German division of the 1st League North . After the Hammer Eisbären were dissolved in 1998 due to bankruptcy , the newly founded ESC Hamm took the place of the second division team . This played occupied with numerous former players of the polar bear again in the Regionalliga NRW . In the 1999/2000 season there was a player bottleneck for the Hammer Huskies. In order to overcome this, Kovařík was asked whether he would like to come back to the old place of work in Hamm for a few games. Kovařík, who had returned to his homeland in the Czech Republic and ended his professional career, agreed to play a few games. He came to the games from the Czech Republic. In three games he scored five goals and gave four assists.

Occasionally he is still a guest in Hamm today. He took part in the 2007 Elche Cup with a selection of the Hammer Eisbären and is still one of the most popular ice hockey players who have played in Hamm.

On September 7, 2012 he was inducted into the "Hall of Fame" of the Hammer Eisbären before the season opening game.
