The 1961/62 season of the first division was the 19th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . With 51 points after the final round, Rudá Hvězda Brno prevailed. For the team it was their seventh Czechoslovak championship title .

mode

As in the previous season, twelve teams took part in the first division, which played the main round in a joint group. After the first and second leg, the total number of games per team was 22 games. Then the first six teams played the champions, and the remaining six teams played for relegation. Champion became the winner of the final round. The last two teams in the relegation round were relegated directly to the 2nd division. Both the final and the relegation round took place in a two-legged manner, so that each team played ten more games. The points from the main round were taken over in both groups.

The top scorer in the league was Josef Vimmer from TJ SONP Kladno, who scored 38 goals in his team's 32 games.

1st league qualification

The two winners of their respective 2nd division group, Spartak Zbrojovka Brno and Tatra Kolín , should originally be promoted to the 1st division for the next season. Tatra Kolín, however, waived his right of promotion, so that Litvínov was allowed to stay as the penultimate in the 1st division and Spartak Brno was the only promoted.
