player

In the 1950s and 60s, Olejnik was one of the best players in Czechoslovakia . He played 38 times for the national team and was Czechoslovak champions eleven times between 1955 and 1958 and from 1960 to 1966 with his hometown club RH Brno and after the renaming ŽKL Brno .

Trainer

After moving to Germany in 1968, Olejnik coached EC Bad Tölz and led him to the German runner-up championship in 1970 . By VfL Bad Nauheim succeeded in 1974 3rd place, the best place in Nauheim's Bundesliga history. In 1979 he reached seventh place with the German U-20 national team, which he was in charge of from 1978 to 1980, at the A-World Cup in Sweden. In the same year he was on the boards of the Bundesliga in the all-star game, which was held for the first time in Germany - Foreigners who beat Hans Rampf's German selection 8-3.

1980 began his successful time at the Mannheim ERC . He led the Mannheimers, whom he coached until 1989, apart from a short interlude in 1986 at SB Rosenheim , to four German runner-up championships ( 1982 , 1983 , 1985 and 1987 ) and three third places ( 1981 , 1984 and 1988 ). In 1989 Olejnik moved to Eintracht Frankfurt . With 6th place after the main round, he led the team in the season to the best place in the club's history. The following year , the team was even stronger, Jiří Lála was even the scorer king of the league, but the club then chose voluntary relegation for economic reasons.

At the same time, Olejnik became national coach of the German national ice hockey team in 1990 with Erich Kühnhackl . At the ice hockey world championship in Finland in 1991 , the German team finished eighth with only two draws. Since Olejnik's club also exerted pressure because of the double burden, he renounced the office of national coach. He took over the coaching position at EHC Freiburg and led the club in 1992 at the end of the main round in 5th place, which was the greatest success in the Freiburg club's history. However, the team was eliminated in the first round of the play-offs . After he was dismissed in January 1993 after 33 match days, he took over a DEL club again in 1994 with the Ratingen Löwen , but was released from his position after a short time. 1998-2005 Olejnik was again in old age junior coach of the EC Bad Nauheim and reached, among other things, a German runner-up championship.

Honors

Although Ladislav Olejnik failed to win the big titles in Germany, his achievements for German ice hockey were recognized and he was therefore inducted into the "Hall of Fame" of the German ice hockey museum.
